Leeches have a mouth at one end and a sucker at the other end. Leeches have thirty-four body segments. Leeches live in fresh water and on land. Leeches spend many months between meals. Leeches are primarily blood suckers and they suck the blood of vertebrates and invertebrates. Leeches jaws contain three pieces angled towards each other. They use their Y shaped jaws to slice through their victims and suck their blood. The mouth leads to a pharynx, esophagus, crop, gizzard, intestine, and then out throughout the posterior sucker. The crop is where the food is stored for all those months.
